New National Consumer Credit Reform Legislation

 
In April 2009, the Commonwealth Government released a draft of the National Consumer Credit Protection Bill 2009. The Bill is a proposed scheme for the national regulation of finance and mortgage brokers. If passed, it will come into effect on 1 November 2009, and will impose entry requirements, mandatory external dispute resolution, and enhanced consumer protection provisions.

File sharing remains the biggest problem for rights owners, particularly within social websites such as MySpace, Facebook and YouTube, but new forms of piracy continue to emerge.

Great News for First Home Owners

The Australian Federal Government has announced it would invest about $1.5 billion in the housing market over 2008/09 and 2009/10, supplementing the Queensland Government funded First Home Owners Scheme.

First Home Owners Buying Land in Queensland

The First Home Owner Boost Scheme is an Australian Government initiative designed to assist first homebuyers build their first home.  The scheme is in addition to the $7,000 First Home Owners Grant.
First homeowners building a new home before 30 September 2009 may be eligible for the $14,000 boost benefit in addition to the existing $7,000 grant, bringing the total benefits to $21,000.
From 1 October to 31 December 2009, first homeowners building a new home will be eligible to an extra $7,000 for building a new home in addition to the existing $7,000, bringing the total benefits to $14,000.
In addition to the First Home Owner Grant and the First Home Owner Boost benefits, the Queensland Government provides exemptions and concessions on duty for first homeowners buying land.
